📘other、the other、another 的區別｜英文基礎文法整理
other、the other、another 為什麼容易搞混？
這些看起來很像的單字，有著不同的意義。
簡單先記：
- other：其他的、其餘的，通常沒有明確指定。
- the other：另一個、其餘那些，通常有明確指定。
- another：另一個、再一個，通常沒有指定是哪一個。
📝1）Other：其餘的、剩下的、其他的
作為形容詞時
作為形容詞時
因為是形容詞，所以後面接名詞，代表「其他」。
other people 其他人
other dogs 其他狗
作為代名詞時
作為代名詞時
other 做為代名詞，其實就是代替 other（形容詞）+ 名詞。
other people = others
前者 other 是形容詞；後者 others 是代名詞。
other 是代替單數名詞；others 則代替複數名詞。
other / others 常搭配 Some 一起使用： Some… others… 一些人～其他～
Some people like to go out on weekend while others like to stay home.
一些人喜歡假日的時候出去；其他則喜歡待在家。
📌2）the other：另一個
the other 的用法和 other 幾乎相同；不一樣的地方在於：other 沒有指定，但 the other 有指定。
有指定 是什麼意思？
當你話講到一半，對方已經可以得知剩下的是哪些群體，那我們就稱剩下的那些為 「有指定」。
舉例來說：
I have two sons. One of them is 7 years old, and the other is 5 years old.
我有兩個小孩，其中一個 7 歲，另一個 5 歲。
我們話講到一半的時候，你已經知道剩下的那個是誰了。

The other boys 就是指在班上，除了喜歡打籃球以外的那些男孩。

和上面一樣的句子：
當形容詞的時候，我們寫作 The other boys.
當代名詞的時候，我們可以直接改成 The others.

💬3）another：另一個、再一個
another 常常和 the other 做比較，兩者都有「另一個」的意思，但 the other 有指定，another 沒有指定。
The pen is out of ink. Can I get another one?
這枝筆沒水了，我可以拿另一枝嗎？
我要再拿一枝筆，那枝筆隨便一枝都可以，沒有指定，我們就會用 another，而不是 the other。
We still have a lot of time. May I have another coffee？
我們還有很多時間。我可以再喝一杯咖啡嗎？

因為話講到最後，我們會知道最後一個是剩餘的那個，所以最後都會用「有指定」的 the other 收尾。

我有三枝筆。一枝紅的，另一枝藍的，最後一枝是綠色的。
